Westville Boys’ High School is a leading semi-private boys’ school in KwaZulu-Natal, established in 1955 and built on a much older educational tradition that traces back to the nineteenth-century farm schools of the area. The school occupies land originally donated by the Bernard family and quickly grew from a small co-educational community school into a full secondary institution. By the mid-1960s it had split into separate boys’ and girls’ high schools and began shaping the identity it carries today, rooted in academic ambition, community involvement and a strong sense of purpose reflected in its motto Incepto Ne Desistam.
WBHS has developed into one of South Africa’s most accomplished state-aided schools, known for consistently strong matric results, a comprehensive awards system and an exceptional sports programme. The school has produced numerous provincial and national athletes, especially in rugby, cricket, swimming and tennis, and is widely regarded as one of the country’s strongest swimming environments. Modern facilities such as the multi-purpose centre, Sports Academy and aquatic complex support a culture where academics, sport and service are integrated into daily school life. The Griffin remains a central symbol of the school’s identity and its commitment to developing confident, disciplined and well-rounded young men.
