About Stowe School

Stowe School is an independent boarding and day school for pupils aged 13 to 18, located on the Stowe estate near Buckingham in Buckinghamshire. It was founded in 1923 and occupies Stowe House, a Grade I listed country house set within landscaped gardens designed by Capability Brown and his contemporaries. The school was established under the leadership of the Martyrs Memorial Trust and its first headmaster, J. F. Roxburgh, who aimed to create a civilised school built on academic ambition, the arts and a strong pastoral ethos. Stowe is a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference and forms part of the Rugby Group of leading independent schools.

The school enrols around 900 pupils and offers a full boarding and day structure supported by a wide range of academic, sporting and cultural facilities. Much of Stowe’s identity is tied to its historic estate, including the central house, extensive grounds and the cricket field, which has hosted first class matches. The school is known for its strong co curricular life, including major sports, the arts and outdoor activities. Former pupils, known as Old Stoics, have included figures in politics, the armed forces, business, exploration, literature and the performing arts.
