About St Laurences

St Laurence’s College is a leading independent Catholic boys’ school located in South Brisbane, Queensland. Founded by the Congregation of Christian Brothers in 1915, the college forms part of Edmund Rice Education Australia and educates students from Year 5 to Year 12. Today the school enrols more than 1900 boys and is recognised for its strong academic culture, pastoral care, and diverse co-curricular programme.

The campus includes both historic and modern facilities. Several original buildings are protected on the Brisbane Heritage Register, while newer developments include an urban synthetic oval built above a multi-storey parking structure and a 1500-seat auditorium. The school also operates extensive off-site facilities, including the Runcorn playing fields—featuring eight sports grounds—and Camp Laurence, an outdoor education centre at Lake Moogerah.

Sport is a central part of college life. St Laurence’s is a longstanding member of the Associated Independent Colleges (AIC) competition and fields teams across rugby, cricket, football, swimming, athletics, and more. Many former students have represented Australia at Olympic level, in professional rugby union and rugby league, and across a variety of national and international sporting codes.

The college has produced alumni across business, politics, law, media, and the arts. Notable Old Boys include entrepreneur John Symond, journalist Kerry O’Brien, Olympic swimmers Rowan Crothers and Mark Stockwell, Wallabies such as Brendan Cannon and Dan Crowley, and NRL star Cooper Cronk.

Rooted in its motto Facere et Docere (“To do and to teach”), St Laurence’s College continues to uphold its Christian Brothers tradition while offering a contemporary, high-performing educational environment for boys in Brisbane.
