About Knox Grammar

Knox Grammar School is one of Sydney’s most prominent independent boys’ schools, located in Wahroonga on the Upper North Shore. Founded in 1924, the school has grown into a large K–12 institution with a Senior School, Preparatory School and boarding community, supported by extensive academic, cultural and sporting facilities.

Academically, Knox offers the full New South Wales curriculum with strong representation across sciences, humanities, commerce, languages and creative subjects. Senior students benefit from specialist study centres, modern laboratories, advanced technology spaces and a structured academic programme designed to support consistent HSC performance. The school places a major emphasis on co-curricular development, including leadership, service, outdoor education and one of the country’s largest Army Cadet units.

Sport is central to school life. Knox is a founding member of the Combined Associated Schools (CAS) and competes extensively across rugby, basketball, cricket, swimming, athletics, soccer, tennis, volleyball and water polo. First teams regularly feature in CAS premiership races, backed by deep squad depth and a strong coaching infrastructure. The school’s facilities include on-campus fields, an aquatic centre, gymnasiums and additional playing grounds in neighbouring suburbs.

Culturally, Knox maintains a large performing arts programme with music ensembles, drama productions and internationally touring groups. The Pipes and Drums, Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles form a major part of the school’s identity, reflecting long-standing traditions within the broader co-curricular framework. Boarders from across Australia contribute to the school’s community feel, while day boys make up the majority of enrolments.

Today, Knox Grammar School stands as a large, well-resourced boys’ school with a strong academic structure, wide co-curricular opportunities and a significant profile within Sydney’s independent school landscape.
