Hampton School is an independent boys’ day school located in Hampton, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The school traces its origins to 1557 when Robert Hammond established a small free school beside St Mary’s Church. After a period of closure in the late sixteenth century, the school was re-endowed and reopened in 1612, forming the foundation from which the modern institution developed. Hampton later evolved into a fee-paying grammar school and, following changes in British secondary education, became a fully independent school in 1975.

The school moved to its current 28-acre campus on Hanworth Road in 1939, giving it the space to expand academic buildings, specialist facilities and extensive playing fields. The site has continued to grow with modern additions that support science, technology, performing arts and sport, while maintaining the traditional central quadrangle and the distinctive main building opened before the Second World War.
