Coleg Sir Gâr is a further education college serving Carmarthenshire and the wider south west Wales region. Formed in 1985, it now operates as part of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David Group and provides a wide range of academic, vocational and work-based learning pathways. The college teaches around ten thousand learners each year across five main campuses, offering full time, part time and online provision.
The college’s curriculum covers further education courses, apprenticeships, higher education programmes and community learning. Subjects span academic fields, technical disciplines and specialist industry areas, with training available from entry level to postgraduate study. The college also works closely with local schools, providing opportunities for pupils aged fourteen to nineteen to study vocational subjects alongside their mainstream education.
Coleg Sir Gâr’s campuses at Graig, Pibwrlwyd, Ammanford, Gelli Aur and Jobs Well each focus on different areas of delivery. Facilities include engineering and construction centres, art and design studios, agriculture and land-based training grounds, laboratories and sports spaces. The college operates a virtual campus that delivers fully online courses supported by teaching staff.
The institution has grown through mergers, including the integration of Coleg Ceredigion, which added further campuses in Aberystwyth and Cardigan. It maintains strong links with employers and offers tailored training programmes across multiple sectors. Notable former students include international rugby players, musicians and broadcasters, reflecting the breadth of pathways the college supports.
Coleg Sir Gâr continues to position itself as a major provider of further and higher education in Wales, combining multi-site facilities, industry partnerships and a broad curriculum designed to meet regional needs.
