New ZealandThe North Harbour 1A Rugby Competition is the premier secondary school rugby tournament in the North Harbour region of New Zealand. It brings together the top First XV sides from schools across the area, including Westlake Boys’ High School, Rosmini College, Rangitoto College, and Massey High School.
The competition runs through a full round-robin season followed by semi-finals and a grand final, often hosted at North Harbour Stadium in Albany. Known for its fast-paced and attacking style of rugby, the 1A grade has grown steadily in stature and serves as a vital development pathway for players within the Blues Super Rugby catchment.
Beyond local bragging rights, the North Harbour champion advances to the Blues Schools Rugby Championship playoffs, where they face the top teams from Auckland and Northland for a place at the National Top 4. The competition remains a cornerstone of youth rugby in the region, producing well-coached, technically strong players ready for the next level.
